One of my least favorite things about walking around LA is all of the mid-block curb cuts. These are places where the sidewalk scoops down to the street so cars can easily drive up and into some kind of parking. Sometimes, these cuts are done in a way that respects most of the sidewalk, but too often, they make the whole sidewalk very slanty, and all that much more annoying to walk on.
It took me a while to notice this, but the walking experience is the sum of lots of little things. We should work to ensure that sidewalks are fairly level for pedestrians (they can have a slight angle for rain), except at corners where cuts are needed for the disabled.
